Meet Our Staff

Stephen M. Wirth, MSPT
Physical Therapist
Stephen founded New York Sports & Physical Therapy Institute in 1998 and continues to be the Director. He graduated from Adelphi University in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and Health Science. He worked as a Physical Education Teacher prior to returning to school to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. Stephen graduated in 1973 from NYU with a Masters in Physical Therapy. Stephen started his career at Nassau County Medical Center; however he had a strong passion for Sports Medicine and decided to join a private practice. For the past 30 plus years, Stephen has specialized in sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation and has had the opportunity to work with many professional organizations. He was the Physical Therapist for the New York Islanders from 1979-1996, acted as a consultant for the New York Mets, and had the pleasure to train professional boxers, including Alex Stewart, David Sears and Jerry Cooney. Stephen is certified in the Burdenko Method for aquatic rehabilitation and as a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor from the Titleist Performance Institute.

Melissa A. Colleluori, PT, DPT, ATC
Physical Therapist
Melissa attended NYIT on a volleyball scholarship. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Science in 2002 while enrolled in the Physical Therapy Program. Melissa completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2003. She is also a Certified Athletic Trainer. Since graduation, Melissa has specialized in outpatient orthopedic and sports rehabilitation. Continuing Education credits include classes in shoulder and knee rehabilitation as well as nutrition and she holds a certification as a Nutrition Specialist. She has also lectured on Scoliosis Rehabilitation at Winthrop University Hospital.

David J. DeFilippis, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist
David graduated New York Institute of Technology with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2007. He has worked in various settings both prior to and after graduation gaining experience with Acute Care and Orthopedic and Sport Specific Rehabilitation.  David is a member of the APTA.

Julianne M. Schultheiss, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist
Julianne joined NYSPT in August 2013.  She graduated from Utica College with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.  She is a member of the APTA with a concentration in Orthopedic and Sports. 

Joni Olton
Receptionist
Joni joined New York Sports & Physical Therapy Institute in 2005. She welcomes all our patients with a big smile and a warm heart. She is always willing to go above and beyond to make the patients experience an enjoyable one.
